About.
Are you a teen who is feeling overwhelmed by pressure and expectations? Is the stress of competing, performing, or always being “on” catching up with you? This group is for you!
This support group blends creative expression, somatic awareness, and movement-based interventions to support teens in high pressure, performance-based environments to rebuild safety and connection with their bodies, regulate emotions, and experience healing and joy through movement. Participants will have the option to meet with facilitators one-on-one for additional support.
Participants can expect to:
Gain healthy coping and regulating skills
Identify feelings, needs, emotions and patterns
Improve body-image and self-esteem
Improve social emotional skills
Location.
This group runs in-person at our Village Gate studio.
Meeting Time.
This group meets on Sundays from 3:30-05:00 pm starting January 11th, and runs for 6 weeks.
Participants.
This support group welcomes teens in high pressure, performance based activities (i.e. sports, dance, gymnastics, cheer, figure skating, theater, those who have been injured, etc.) who are struggling with issues related to anxiety, perfectionism, body dysmorphia, depression, stress, or trauma - and are interested in accessing dance as a tool for coping, regulating, identifying feelings, improving body image and self esteem, and social emotional skills. No dance experience required, however, participants must be comfortable or interested in using movement as an intervention. Open to all bodies and abilities. Movement is always adapted so every teen feels safe and supported.


Your Instructors
Alexis Fox & Becca Phelps
Meet your facilitators who come with training in mental health, trauma-informed approaches, and with their own backgrounds in dance and yoga! Alexis Fox (left) is earning a Masters of Social Work. Alexis has a deep commitment to social justice, and pulls from 20+ years of experience in movement and body-based expression. Becca Phelps (right) is currently earning a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. With a background in Psychology and dance, she practices from an integrative, holistic, trauma informed, and person-centered approach.
