Maddy Whitney, LMSW
(she/her/hers)
Clinical Therapist
Maddy Whitney is a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) who earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Buffalo. Maddy provides individual therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults through a compassionate, client-centered approach grounded in evidence-based practices.
Maddy brings clinical experience from both a private practice and foster care setting, where she has worked closely with youth and families navigating complex trauma, system involvement, and relational challenges. These diverse experiences inform her holistic, trauma-informed approach to therapy. Maddy believes that trauma affects every person uniquely and can show up in different ways across a person’s life. With this in mind, Maddy prioritizes building a foundation of safety and trust, assembling the necessary resources before directly addressing trauma. She supports clients in developing soothing, grounding, and regulation skills that can be used both in therapy and in everyday life. Maddy views young clients as active participants in their healing process, fostering a sense of agency and empowerment from the start. Maddy also recognizes the essential role of family and broader systems in a child’s therapeutic journey and works to include caregivers and support systems to create a consistent, nurturing environment for growth both in and out of the therapy space.
Maddy specializes in working with individuals navigating complex trauma, grief, attachment-related concerns, self-esteem challenges, and emotional or behavioral difficulties. Maddy incorporates a range of trauma-informed modalities, including Progressive Counting, Play Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and select forms of somatic work. Her approach is collaborative and tailored, ensuring that each client’s individual needs and strengths are honored throughout the therapeutic process. She works alongside clients to explore the deeper impacts of trauma, helping them gain insight and foster meaningful change.
Outside of her role as a clinical therapist, Maddy enjoys spending time outdoors, whether camping, fishing, or simply enjoying nature, and cherishes moments shared with friends and family.
